1967
Creation of the ELF brand which launches the Prestigrade multi-grade oil and its first range of single grade engine lubricants (ELF 8000rpm)
1968
ELF buy out of the Societe des Huiles Renault and first recommendation agreement for ELF lubricants by the French manufacturer.
1969
Jackie Stewart on Matra-ELF gives ELF the first of its fifteen Formula 1 titles.
1970
As motor racing partners, Renault and ELF design a high performance turbocharged engine together.
1973
The Renault-ELF Alpine becomes World rally Champion
1974
First 500cc motorcycle world champion’s title with Phil read on MC Augusta
1976
ELF markets presti Anti-usure, the first lubricant o the market in 15w grades
1977
First appearance of the Renault-ELF turbocharged engine in Formula 1
1978
Driving the Renault-ELF A442B the Jaussaud – Pironi team wind the Le Mands 24-hour race which is the major endurance event.
1979
ELF launches the first detergent oils for Diesel engines
1981
Inauguration of the ELF competition range, the brands first semi-synthetic lubricant, designed for top-of-the-range turbo engines. ELF driver Hubert Auriol wins the Paris-Dakar in the motorcycle class
1982
The Marreau brothers driving a Renault 20 T4 RM I ELF colours triumph at the Paris-Dakar
 
1985
Aryton Senna wins two F1 Grand Prix driving the lotus Renault-ELF
1992
Launch of the first 100% synthetic lubricant. The Williams-Renault-ELF team wins the Formula 1 constructor’s championship and drivers titles.
1993
ELF launches fuel-eco lubricants with ELF competition SX 10W-30
1994
Michael Doohan wins a 500cc world championship title for Honda and ELF
1995
Michael Schumacher leads the Benneton-Renault_ELF team to win both world championship titles
1996
The ELF Competition range is extended with the lubricant SX 5WW-30 which marks the appearance of fluid grades
1998
ELF launches the first Truck “mineral” fuel-Eco pack
2000
Market launch of ELF Competition SXR 5W-30 oil. Creation of two new product lines; ELF Excellium for recent technology engines and ELF Evolution for the new fuel-eco lubricants Creation of TotalFinalElf which would later become Total ELF strengthens its position as top-of-the-range lubricants specialist
2001
Renault returns to Formula 1 with Benetton Renault then Renault F1 team
2003
Renewal of the Renault-ELF partnership contract
2004
Launch of ELF Excellium XLL (only 5W-40 grade oil to hold the latest BM homologation) and ELF Excellium LSX 9first ELF Low SAPS oil to obtain homologation for Mercedes engines equipped with particle filters
End 2004 / 2005
New ELF visual identity ELF reasserts its ambition to be the reference brand for lubricants. ELF becomes the partner of Nissan Motor Sport.
